SIGMA International Board (SIB) Academic Progression Framework
A Global Professional Pathway in Beauty & Wellness Sciences
The beauty and wellness industry is one of the fastest-growing professional sectors in the world. However, unlike medicine, engineering, or law, there is no universally accepted academic progression system that allows professionals to advance through clearly defined stages of education, expertise, and leadership.
To address this gap, the SIGMA International Board (SIB) has developed a structured professional advancement framework designed specifically for the global Beauty & Wellness industry. This framework provides a progressive pathway through education, specialization, advanced expertise, teaching, and professional leadership.

The SIB Academic Progression Framework is an internationally standardized professional certification and competency framework that recognizes the knowledge, skills, achievements, and contributions of beauty and wellness professionals worldwide.

The Philosophy Behind the Framework
In medicine, a student first completes a broad foundational education (M.B.B.S) before choosing a specialty (M.D.) and eventually pursuing advanced areas of expertise (D.M.). The SIB framework follows a similar philosophy.
Every professional begins by acquiring a broad understanding of the various disciplines within the Beauty & Wellness industry. As they progress, they may choose a particular area of interest, develop advanced expertise, become educators, and eventually emerge as leaders and mentors within the profession.
The objective is to create professionals who are not only technically skilled but also capable of teaching, mentoring, innovating, and contributing to the advancement of the industry.
